Grey sits between the extremes: it does not swallow detail the way black can, and it does not glare under a desk lamp the way white does, so what you see on the plate is what you actually printed. That makes it the right choice for checking a design, for test fits and for anything you need to photograph and send to someone. Five hundred grams is a practical quantity for regular hobby use.
